Awkwafina has been described as an American performer and actor who made her name with clever raps that tackled gender and ethnic identities from a a boldly comic perspective. She then expanded into Hollywood. Nora Lum began her musical journey as a trumpet player. Born in Forest Hills Queens, she was a child of Chinese immigrants and Korean immigrants. She also received the classical and jazz education later when she began to explore hip-hop as a teenager. While at school, she majored in journalism and women's studies in college even learning Mandarin in Beijing for a stint. She didn't start focusing on music until after she graduated. The track My Vag, a response track to Mickey Avalon's My Dick gained viral popularity via the Internet in 2012. It was eventually included in her first album Yellow Ranger released in 2014.
